Work gets in the way sometimes, as it has for both of us lately…
The pic sums up work at the moment. I posted it to Instagram with the hashtags #work #hatred and #murderimminent.
No gigs. No crazy weekends. No time to plan wedding stuff. Just a couple of pints and some time with family here and there to break up all that work. Hence no blog posts. Hopefully things will improve soon…
Also, in the background I have been looking at the design and structure for this website. Haven’t been wanting to posts lots if I then need to go back and edit content to fit a new format. For the geeks among you I am considering using one of the premium WordPress frameworks. (Thesis, for example). Any advice on which work best gratiously accepted…
Suffice to say that we should be posting more soon…
Friday evening in Camden is not my first choice for the end of a tough week at work, but I will brave most unpleasantnesses for some decent live music, so Camden is where Paul and I find ourselves on a freezing Friday to see I Am A Camera.
I had not been to Proud Camden before, but had heard good things and Paul rates the place, so I was looking forward to seeing both the band and the venue.
How to describe I Am A Camera? Cinematic synth-pop with feisty girl vox, maybe? Probably best for listeners to make up their minds for themselves. Suffice to say that I like them.
I saw the band play during 2011 at a smallish pub venue in Shoreditch, but the sound at Proud was so much bigger/fuller. Great to hear the songs at volume too. I like that the band use a live drummer when they gig – it works well with the programmed drums and Ian’s synths/samples.
Francesca’s voice is amazing! Girl has power and her voice lends itself perfectly to synth-pop. It helps that she is somewhat striking visually too. Not that Ian isn’t, of course… (Hi Ian!)
The songs came over really well. Commuter Love and Without You being the standout tracks that I was already familiar with. The second to last track was my favourite on the night and it is apparently the new single, but I can’t remember the name of it (Anyone?). Dare I say shades of Erasure? I shall look forward to it coming out.
Commuter Love video below. Keep an eye on I Am A Camera during the rest of 2012…
Following Paul’s post and after a somewhat stressful evening of watching friends post to Facebook that they had received ticket confirmation from Burning Man, I finally got our confirmation at a little after 1 o’clock this morning.
Relief!
Despite not getting hitched until November, this years trip to Burning Man in August is sort of our honeymoon, as we cannot really afford to go to the Burn, have our civil partnership celebration and have a fancy honeymoon all in one year.
As the majority of tickets this year will be allocated by lottery (for reasons I will probably explain at another time), there was no guarantee that we would get tickets at this stage.
The guys that we are planning to set up camp with this year also got their confirmations too. Another relief.
Some good news filtering through: friends getting their tickets allocated. Bloody lottery bollocks! Waiting to hear about our Burning Man tickets. F f f frustration. I need to know I can go home this year. Tick tock, tick tock.
Crikey, it’s funny how a few but totally heartfelt words, mumbled between hiccups down a back alley after a skinful in Lisbon, can have such a profound effect on a life. Or two. So, here we are. Date set, people told, venues found, plans already underway. As Stewie Griffin says; ‘It feels right Brian, it [...]
